In the heart of the Gold Country, Calaveras County (population 48,000) is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and  is home of the California Gold Rush.  The County is an emerging wine country and offers an enchanting and quality lifestyle with its colorful personality and rich cultural history.

Calaveras County is located 43 miles east of Stockton, 67 miles southeast of Sacramento, 133 miles east of San Francisco, 135 miles south of Lake Tahoe, and just 73 miles from Yosemite National Park.  We are  situated in the perfect location for adventurous day trips.

Calaveras County has a wide variety of distinct communities and one incorporated city, Angels Camp.  Each community has it’s own  unique personality  and geography  ranging from flat valleys and rolling hills to the west, and the Sierra Mountains and magnificent canyons to the east. 

The County of Calaveras is a General Law County governed by a five member Board of Supervisors.  The Board is elected by district, with alternating four-year terms in even numbered years.  The anticipated FY 18-19 all funds budget is over $169M, with approximately 633 allocated positions.
