Assistant/Associate Professor of Occupational Health & Safety Management

The College of Business (COB) at Athens State University invites applications and nominations for a tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor of Management with an emphasis on Occupational Health and Safety. The position reports directly to the Occupational Health and Safety Management Department Chair in the College of Business.

DUTIES: In addition to the duties listed below, faculty members must adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Employee Handbook, and perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of the College of Business and the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs.

• Teaching a variety of upper-division occupational health and safety management courses in day, night, weekend, distance learning formats and also at various offsite locations;

• Developing and delivering courses in a variety of modes, including online courses that ensure quality and effective assessment;

• Working with a range of students to assist them in reaching goals and learning outcomes;

• Professional development and/or scholarship appropriate for a teaching institution to maintain currency in disciplinary field(s);

• Office hours and advising students;

• Serving on committees and accreditation efforts as needed;

• Willingness to contribute to the University's mission in terms of undergraduate teaching, research, creative activities, etc.

• Assuming any other professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by administrative personnel;

• Involvement with activities in the business community; participating in teaching professional development courses to meet community needs; and developing and supervising internships for students in appropriate curriculum areas.


Required Qualifications:

• Minimum Required: Ph.D., ABD, or a master’s in an occupational health and safety management or closely-related field, with a commitment to obtaining a doctorate before becoming tenured required. The successful candidate has not only relevant subject matter expertise, but is able to demonstrate quality instructional and technical skill proficiency. Creativity, desire to learn and to teach, and interest in occupational health and safety curriculum development are crucial to this position.
• Teaching competence to include 18 graduate semester hours in occupational health and safety management is preferred.
• Preference will be given to candidates who possess a doctorate degree in the teaching areas mentioned.
• Preference will be given to candidates with certifications related to occupational health and safety management (National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP)-Licensed Safety Professional, Certified Safety Manager, Certified Safety Director; Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP)-Certified Safety Professional; OSHA-Environmental Health & Safety Certification, or other comparable nationally recognized safety credentials).
• A strong commitment to both teaching and scholarly activity is expected.
• Preference will be given to candidates who have related work experience along with experience in undergraduate teaching and scholarship.
• The ability to teach graduate level courses and guide graduate level work is expected.
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in occupational health and safety management.
*Academic and/or professional experience in public health preferred.
