Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer

Responsible for initiating, facilitating, and continuously improving the environmental, health and safety systems throughout the corporation.  Leads and participates in mill specific R3 (Residual Risk Reduction) events to develop and implement sustainable engineered solutions. Major oversight over the overall safety and environmental performance of the Corporation.  



• Mentors Safety Coordinators and Sub-committees (Hazmat Team, First Responder, Observation Team).

• Coordinates and communicates Safety Training for all Safety Coordinators and Mill GM’s.

• Oversees mill preparation for the Safety and Environmental Orientation for new hires.

• Records Observation and Safety Audit Data for the Corporation

• Logs all safety incidents on the corporate logs, OSHA 300, 301 and 301A.

• Oversees safety investigation process and performs routine audits of corrective actions at the mills.

• Maintains, updates and educates employees on Safety Manual

• Assists in keeping Mills compliant with OSHA regulatory updates and changes. 

• Uses Data to evaluate mill safety performance and drives safety improvement through sustainable engineered corrective actions and/or automation  


• Mentors Environmental Coordinators and Sub-committees (Hazmat Team, First Responder, Observation Team).

• Helps to coordinate and research data for environmental certifications at the mill locations.

• Performs TSD (treatment, storage and disposal) audits to ensure compliance with environmental regulations for RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act).

• Coordinates with mill Environmental Coordinator and ensures policies and procedures comply with local, state and federal regulations.

• Oversees EMS (Environmental Management System) and our adherence with or towards ISO:14001.

• Insures mill Compliance with annual reporting for environmental regulatory permits. 

• Performs regular audits to monitor the safety and environmental impact of our facilities and team members.

• Performs regular audits to monitor the safety and environmental impact of our Pickle and waste treatment processes to ensure the facilities are properly maintained and team members properly trained in the safe handling of the areas.

• Insures Management and EH&S supplies are appropriate for the Pickle, waste treatment, Hazmat and First Responders.


• Strong Knowledge and understanding of Engineered Controls via Mechanical Engineering background.

• Understands, applies and advocates all Company Safety and Environmental Standards.

• Attends all prerequisite training as required by management.

• Has the authority to stop process to correct safety or environmental problems, and to promptly notify Supervisory personnel when processes are noncompliant.  


• Model Plymouth Tube values and behaviors as outlined in the Mission Statement

• Represent Plymouth Tube in a professional manner

• Follow all company Environmental and Safety policies, procedures and standards

• Follow all company Quality Standards  


• A bachelor degree in Environmental, Health and Safety with Engineering (ME, CE etc.) background preferred.

• Five years’ experience in manufacturing environment in EHS role and knowledge and experience within the served industry is preferred.

• OSHA & EPA regulatory knowledge required.

• Certification and/or licenses in powered industrial equipment, Hazmat, Hazwoper, First Responder, Hazmat Technician and Waste Water certification.

• Must be self-motivated, be able to problem solve complex situations, and be resourceful

• A strong influencer in leading change at mill locations in a decentralized environment

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products.

• Demonstrated ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, decimals, negative and positive numbers. 

• Demonstrated ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs & use metrics and data in leading change. 

• Proven Track record of sustainable Best Practices leading to reductions in TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate).

• Proven Track record of sustainable Best Practices leading to waste elimination and reduced reporting requirements.  


EH&S Excellence – Drives improvements in EHS culture in organization.  Maintains necessary records, testing, sampling and training to comply with OSHA, IDEM and Plymouth Tube requirements. Facilitates, coordinates and provides leadership to site safety steering and sub committees.  Holds accountable all managers for improvements in Safety and Environmental.
