Corporate Occupational Health & Safety Specialist

JOB SUMMARY:
Oversees the receipt of employee injury notification ensure claim is set up on external reporting system and investigated. Maintains and monitors for 100% accuracy OSHA logs and address disparities. Monitors all workers’ compensation claims (MO, TD, and LT). Expedites and coordinate the return to work process for injured employees; follow up with employees, local management, and safety managers to ensure Transitional Duty positions are utilized properly. Manages workers’ compensation claims administration process.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages the worker’s compensation claims administration process between BDG and Carrier/TPA; attends all Claim Reviews
  • Establishes relationships with medical facilities for use by employees at each location. Periodically meet with medical staff to review complex cases and ensure open communication. 
  • Communicates frequently with safety managers, location managers, injured workers, insurance adjusters as claims dictate to ensure continuity of claims. 
  • Communicates with Defense Counsel as needed; participate in Industrial Commission Hearings and Medications. 
  • Partners with HR on leave management, ADA and FMLA as it relates to workers’ compensation claims.
  • Maintains documentation to satisfy all statutory and BDG guidelines.
  • Presents training for new Hire Orientation and Supervisors.
  • Administers the DOT process / compliance. 
  • Communicates to location leaders and/Health & Safety Mgrs. on non-compliance. 
  • Communicates with designated parties regarding workers’ compensation claims to facilitate claims management and workers’ compensation process.
  • Manages Claims Documentation and Incident Investigation
  • Coordinates the Interactive Process, Fit for Duty, ad TD (Transitional Duty) programs.
  • Participates in legal proceedings associated with claims.
  • Manages the Corporate Hearing Conservation Program
  • Maintains OSHA Logs accuracy with Carrier/TPA.
  • Participates in periodic meetings with medical providers.
  • Manages the OH budget to optimize the services provided.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3 years of workers’ compensation management, or health and safety management experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees. 
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Investigative and analytical skills required.  Experience and ability to identify unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Ability to complete Workers’ Compensation injury and illness documentation

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management or related health and safety discipline.
  • Workers Compensation Certifications (WCAP and/or WCCP).
  • Basic knowledge of Workers’ Compensation guidelines and CAL-OSHA standards.
