Director of Global Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

Job Description Summary
The Director, Global HSE provides enterprise - wide leadership, direction and continuous improvement for health, safety and environmental processes throughout Elementis to ensure all work practices, policies and procedures are safe and will not cause harm to workers. Working with all functional departments, lead the company’s commitment and adherence to Safety and Sustainability.

Job Description

  • Develop global HSE policies, procedures and regulatory management systems to drive a culture of safety throughout Elementis and leverage best practices across plants and countries. Establishes and implements global safety goals and objectives aligned with corporate priorities.
  • Develop and implement global process safety management program (PSM or other PSM like country specific regulations). Inform and advise ELT regarding compliance status and issues, potential risks and liabilities, future impacts from new laws and rules, recommended actions and risk management strategy
  • Assist plants in leading process safety analysis for major risk projects by providing expert support in PHA methodologies.
  • Globally evaluate and remedy occupational risks in plants and facilities.
  • Serve as company representative to state and federal regulatory agencies related to areas of responsibilities.
  • Implement systems and processes for global monitoring, measurement and reporting of safety statistics.  Report on effectiveness of compliance and safety training programs
  • Prepare global safety metrics, audits and key indicators to ensure consistency, compliance and continuous improvement across Elementis.
  • Provide support for all Elementis audits through the following:
    • Participate and assist with audits as needed
    • Review audit findings
    • Ensure all corrective actions are responded to and completed within the given timeframe
    • Perform root-cause analysis to prevent repeat safety incidents and occurrences
  • Create and deliver training programs for:
    • new and/or existing OSHA rules and regulations,
    • how to safely work with dangerous materials,
    • how to handle an injuries involving dangerous substances.
  • Evaluates how work is performed and makes improvements to ensure safety and efficiency, providing direction to local and plant management with regard to regulatory compliance.
  • Provide global leadership and direction in reduction of LTA’s, near-misses and safety incidents.
  • Ensure all new projects adhere to safety rules, regulations and standards established by Elementis.
  • Design and implement workplace processes and procedures to protect workers from potentially hazardous work and for handling dangerous materials.
  • Works with plant managers and HR to review, remediate, and prevent WC injuries.

Additional Job Description
Bachelor Degree - Occupational Health,Safety and Environment and/or Chemical Engineering preferred.

Minimum 15 years - Progressive HSE experience in a manufacturing and chemical environment. International experience preferred. CSP/CIH preferred.
