Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Programs Administrator

Salary Range: $6,150.00 to $12,991.67 Monthly

This position may represent the Health and Safety Officer, as assigned.  Primary responsibilities include overall responsibility for the hazardous waste, hazardous materials, medical waste programs and disposal programs. Responsibilities also include responsibility for programs within the Joint Commission Environment of Care chapter. 

Each responsibility includes a duty to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.  Other duties may include serving as the Acting Health & Safety Officer and participating in an on-call EH&S Administrator on Duty rotation. Use innovative approaches to solve complex issues related to sustainability initiatives that affect use of chemicals and waste minimization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive previous experience in environmental health & safety with working knowledge of biosafety, industrial hygiene, chemical hazardous waste management, infection control, and associated regulatory requirements. 
  • Years of educational experience may substituted for years of previous work experience.
  • Degree in Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene and/or equivalent and progressive health and safety experience.
  • Advanced written and verbal and communication skills to work with diverse group of individuals and communicate information throughout all levels of an organization.
  • Experience, skill and knowledge in use of but not limited to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, databases, email etc.
  • Valid California Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CIH, CSP, CHMM, and/or CHSP certification.
  • Responsibility and experience in an academic or healthcare setting or experience in a related Regulatory or CUPA agency.
  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge to assess hazardous wastes presented for disposal to determine classification, segregation, appropriate labeling, handling, and disposal options.  Skill to evaluate regulatory requirements and advise on proper waste classification, handling, packaging, and shipping.
  • Demonstrated skills knowledge and abilities in basic safety, industrial hygiene, and Environment of Care areas including: using portable equipment to determine occupational exposures, perform surveys and analyze results to make decisions on requisite safety control strategies, knowledge of Joint Commission Environment of Care Elements of Performance.


Special Requirements:
 

  • Must be able to work special work schedules. including variable schedules on evening and night shift and occasional overtime. 
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to spend extended periods bending, kneeling and squatting, in order to prepare or decontaminate room surfaces for radiotherapy patient's room.
  • Must be able to lift waste containers and supplies up to 50 lbs. and work in an outdoor work environment for hazardous waste collection and processing.
  • Must be able to safety operate the department truck, lift gate and drum dolly and move heavy loads with appropriate ergonomics.
  • Will be part of the DMV pull notice.


This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
