Environmental Engineer

ZFS Solutions, LLC has an opening for an Environmental Engineer supporting manufacturing operations for Zeeland Farm Services, Inc. and transportation operations for Zeeland Freight Services, LLC.

The Environmental Engineer Performs professional engineering work to minimize environmental risks and ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements. The work requires a professional knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of engineering concerned with facilities and systems for controlling pollution and protecting quality of resources and the environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

1. Administer the day-to-day compliance and serve as the resource person for managers, supervisors, and shift supervisors for environmental issues.

2. Provide leadership and training to internally in the environmental area. Develop and implement environmental training programs to on-site staff. Monitor training to ensure that the training is effective and efficient.

3. Lead and maintain environmental regulatory policies, programs or activities by establishing standards, promoting improvements, evaluating compliance and, if necessary, directing action to secure satisfactory results.

4. Enforce environmental regulatory programs including the facility’s commitments under local, state, and federal permits for air, water, and waste; collecting environmental samples and coordinate laboratory analysis as required; and ensuring the completion of environmental monitoring as required by local, state, and federal requirements.

5. Interface with regulatory agencies and divisional personnel to direct environmental efforts, and interact with outside vendors as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

6. Investigate measure and evaluate environmental conditions. Carry out relevant research, development, planning, design, advisory and related engineering activities.

7. Prepare and submit environmental reporting including, but not limited to, hazardous waste, air emissions, water pollution discharge, and other such reports required by local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.

8. Apply professional engineering competence with specialized knowledge of chemistry and biological science. Perform work involved with the planning, modifying or maintenance of facilities affected by environmental requirements.

9. Interpret data and observations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines and advises management accordingly.

10. Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by management.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering and 3 years experience in environmental engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated strong environmental process knowledge.
