Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer

SKC, Inc. a world leader in the polyester film industry, located 35 miles SE of Atlanta in Covington, GA, has an immediate need for an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer

This position is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe, accident free and healthy work environment.  Reporting directly to the VP of Technical Service, the EHS Engineer will oversee the development, implementation, management and monitoring of all EHS programs, policies and procedures for the work force.  This position will also ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements and initiatives.  

JOB DESCRIPTION:  

  • Formulate and maintain general safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal OSHA agencies.
  • Formulation and maintenance of environmental compliance and industrial hygiene and reporting to EPA. 
  • Manage the company's emergency response team, all safety programs, site security policy and procedures, as well as facilitating and leading the central safety committee.
  • Represents the company in the community and industrial safety groups and programs.
  • Properly trains and inspires production teams in safety and environmental process improvement.
  • Consults with all functional departments on design and use of equipment, fire prevention and safety standards while also keeping all plant personal alerted to hazards of working with tonic fumes, dangerous chemicals and other hazardous substances.
  • Investigation of accidents and injuries by compiling and submitting accident reports required by SKC and regulatory agencies and develop action plans for remedy.
  • Investigation of equipment, building and grounds damage by compiling and submitting required SKC or insurance reports and formulating corrective actions.
  • Prepare information, material and evidence for company use in accident and insurance investigations.
  • Develop reports for internal and regulatory submittal.
  • Author and facilitate assigned policies and procedures.
  • Development and facilitation of new-hire safety orientation and other specific training.
  • Maintains an inventory of facility chemicals.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of safety, environmental and security techniques.
  • Preparation of the EHS budget.
  • Interfaces with local, state and federal agencies as required.
  • Provides technical assistance to operational units to ensure regulatory compliance. 
     

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) preferably in Environmental, Health & Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering or related Engineering fields from four-year college or university required. 
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as an Environmental Health & Safety Professional in a manufacturing environment.
  • CHMM and CSP preferred. 
  • Strong project management skills; demonstrated leadership skills; a team player with good interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills. 
  • Six Sigma Green Belt highly desired.  
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with EH&S Management systems.
  • Experience in EHS auditing.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations required.
  • HAZWOPER training (20 hours) preferred.
  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals preferred.
  • Experience working in ISO-14001 or equivalent is desirable.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • May be required to work weekends, evenings, off-hours, extended periods of time.
  • May be required to travel internationally.
