Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Job Summary

Responsible for the compliance of all city, county, state and federal safety and environmental compliance policies for Lauderdale Marine Center. This includes LMC staff, all contractors and all vessels. Also responsible for all required safety and environmental compliance reporting.

Specific Duties

• Develop and maintain written safety, health, and environmental services programs
Oversee implementation of company-wide Safety Management System
• Team with Facility Manager to develop yard-specific safety and environmental compliance plans
• Reinforce LMC safety and environmental guidelines through the review of the guidelines and frequent tours of the yard
• Execute safety and environmental inspections, documenting corrective and preventative actions
• Lead internal incident investigations and disseminate corrective actions and lessons learned
• Understand and integrate all city, county, state and federal OSHA, DEP. EPA and USCG regulations to ensure company meets or exceeds compliance standards
• Oversee reporting of all incidents (employee, contractor, customer, property), working with Human Resources, insurance carriers and claims administrators
• Oversee and ensure adequate safety, health, and environmental training of all employees including demonstration of the use of safety equipment.
• Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers’ health or safety.
• Investigate health-related complaints and inspect facility to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
• File VOC and HAP reports with the appropriate agencies by the required filing deadline.
• Manage the hazardous waste storage area and the hazardous waste disposal process for the facility to ensure compliance with all local and federal regulations.
• Monitor all enclosed membrane spray painting and maintain compliance with NFPA 33, chapter 18 regulations.
• Ensure daily gas free inspections are performed for all hot work and spray painting projects.
• Provide new-employee health and safety orientations and develop materials for these presentations.
• Provide required OSHA 10 hour shipyard safety training classes for LMC employees and LMC Certified Contractors.
• Maintain and update emergency response plans or procedures.
• Conduct facility inspections to ensure the presence of appropriate fire prevention equipment, safety equipment or first-aid supplies.
• Monitor the inventories of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes, using waste tracking systems to ensure that materials are handled properly.

Job Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience as a safety and environmental compliance manager.
• Formal training in occupational safety and health, inspections and regulations. Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health is preferred.

• This job operates in a professional office environment, as well as in the shipyard and marina.
• The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machine.
• Due to the cyclical nature of the marina and boatyard industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of Lauderdale Marine Center.
• The position requires the operation of a golf cart.
• Exposure to outside weather conditions.
• The noise level in the work environment usually is moderate.
