Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manages Environmental, Health, and Safety Programs for approximately 58 employees executing a facility operations and maintenance contract on a military installation
  • Performs environmental review of preventive maintenance program and all job and service orders to ensure they comply with the requirements of 32 CFR 651 and Army Regulation 200-1 to ensure the work or activity complies with those regulations and all related federal, Department of Defense, Department of the Army, Army Installation Management Command, and US Army Garrison-Detroit Tank Arsenal environmental management policies and procedures
  • Maintains environmental database by developing information requirements and designing an information system.  Prepares summaries and charts by gathering data and analyzing and summarizing findings and trends
  • Examines and analyzes service order record information to ensure compliance with program and for identification of error or potential error situations.  Audits the work on randomly selected cases by analyzing service order record information and visibly verifying the information. Determines the cause of an error and prepares corrective action report along with preventative action. Conducts field investigations to verify information and determine correct repairs
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.  Maintains the stability and reputation of the organization by complying with legal and waste management requirements
  • Reviews federal, state and local regulations; reviews policies and procedures and makes recommendations to management on methods to conform to regulations; educates staff on regulation changes; and conducts training sessions for support staff
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required and directed by the Project Manager

 

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Environmental Science or related field is mandatory
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in Michigan environmental management (including hazardous materials, hazardous waste, air emissions mgt and storm water mgt) is required
  • 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Training is required
  • OSHA 501 or 502 accreditation is highly desired
  • Certified Michigan Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor is preferred
  • Certified Michigan Asbestos Contract Supervisor is preferred
  • Certified Michigan Construction Site Storm Water Management Operator is preferred
  • Certified Michigan Class B Underground Storage Tank System Operator is preferred
  • Certified Michigan Asbestos Project Designer is preferred
  • National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Part 106:  An Introduction, 18-Hour Training Seminar is preferred
  • Strong attention-to-detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background check, and motor vehicle report
  • Ability to obtain/maintain National Agency Check w/Inquiries (NACI) security clearance is mandatory
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be an insurable driver for company
  • Previous government experience and security clearance desirable

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good working knowledge of the governing supply systems, programs, policies, nomenclature, work methods, manuals, or other established guidelines and industry standards
  • Analytical ability to define or recognize the dimension of individual case problems, to collect the necessary data to establish the facts, and take or recommend action based upon application or interpretation of established company and government guidelines
  • Requires advanced proficiency in the use of MS Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Attention-to-detail and strong organizational skills
  • Able to effectively read, write, and speak the English language

 

Working Condition

  • Ability to pass criminal, drug, and driving screening
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather as needed and be exposed to various dirt, debris, and odors
  • Ability to work any time or day of the week, including weekends and holidays
