Georgia-Pacific has an immediate opening for an Environmental Leader at our Foley Cellulose Operation in Perry, FL.

The Environmental Leader creates long term value by providing leadership and strategic direction towards the achievement of environmental excellence and performance improvement. This is accomplished though leadership using Georgia-Pacific’s Market-Based Management (MBM®) culture to ensure environmental strategies effectively address the mill’s risk profile and that Georgia-Pacific’s overarching seven element Risk Management System (RMS) is effectively applied to environmental programs.  The Foley mill is a global supplier of dissolving cellulose pulp and bleached market pulp.

The ideal candidate embraces and facilitates change, possesses strong interpersonal skills, and has the capacity to efficiently balance multiple activities, programs and priorities working with regulatory agencies. The position requires enhanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of audiences. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, demonstrate good judgment and sound decision-making skills, good organization skills, and the ability to lead through others in maintaining and improving the environmental performance of the Foley Cellulose operation. This position reports directly to the facility’s General Manager.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Providing leadership and strategic direction towards the achievement of the environmental vision through management commitment and employee ownership
  • Managing the facility’s environmental team
  • Assisting facility leadership with the development of short and long-term environmental objectives, targets, and strategies
  • Overseeing evaluating, interpreting, and ensuring compliance with Environmental laws, regulations and permits as it relates to the operation of the facility
  • Providing a stable foundation and solid understanding of the Georgia-Pacific environmental standards and all federal and State regulations
  • Utilizing training and development plans to grow environmental talent, skills, and knowledge
  • Ensuring the development, improvement, and implementation of training systems to meet facility needs
  • Facilitating and representing the facility during agency meetings and inspections
  • Effectively and proactively interacting with division/corporate environmental and legal resources to seek the best knowledge. 


What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or related field of study
  • Five (5) or more years’ Environmental Compliance, Leadership and Management systems experience
  • Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint-creating presentations, Outlook-email and scheduling appointments, Excel-creating spreadsheets)


What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an environmental leadership role managing compliance with laws and regulations in multiple environmental areas (water, air, waste, etc.) to include managing and developing others
  • Experience in managing environmental issues in an integrated pulp and paper manufacturing facility or other industrial or manufacturing facility
  • Demonstrated ability to put automated systems in place to ensure day-to-day compliance and efficient completion of required work tasks
  • Established track record leading and developing direct reports
