This position will efficiently gather relevant Health & Safety data from all sources, conduct detailed data analysis and present recommendations to management on company H&S performance. The position will also support activities and actions in connection with the Zero Harm Council along with supporting H&S communications across the business. 

Reports to: Health & Safety Partner

Core Accountabilities:
Essential Functions: 

  • Efficiently gather relevant H&S data from all sources, carry out analysis of that data and compile reports that result in improved H&S performance
  • Provide detailed data analysis and recommendations on company H&S performance leading to the implementation of corrective actions and tactical plans which have a direct and positive impact on our pursuit of Zero Harm
  • Support activities of the DNA (Dyno Nobel Americas) Zero Harm Council
  • Provide communications support across all levels of the business
  • Facilitate the enculturation of best practices across the business in collaboration with leadership and line management  H&S strategy, and DNA communications strategy
  • Support development and maintenance of systems that support adherence with applicable Company H&S Performance Standards and governmental regulations
  • Coordinate and complete required IPL (Incitec Pivot Limited) & DNA H&S related reports
  • Support preparation of customer bid packages
  • Review data from incident reporting system and investigations and undertake trend analysis; Compile reports of findings and make recommendations to key stakeholders
  • Develop, maintain and track DNA H&S action plans. Track and provide report on action closure.
  • Gather relevant information and prepare monthly H&S statistical report as required by DNA and Global H&S
  • Distribute key performance data to DNA sites as required by management. Gather compliance data and report back to management within an agreed timeframe.
  • Manage H&S related projects as assigned by the Director, Health & Safety
  • Maintain the Nexus databases to reduce duplication and ensure information is logically stored for easy retrieval for IPL and DNA employees
  • Participate in risk assessments and audits at operational sites as required
  • Provide SHAERS support to multiple business units
  • Coordinate and continuously improve our incident/injury intervention and management process. Take charge of all injury intervention and classification issues
  • Support the Environmental Department with completion of Tier II and other environmental reports as needed
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of the H&S budgets
  • Support creation, revision and editing of DNA DS ExMS documents
  • Coordinate and support creation, and release of key H&S communication documents, with ownership on accuracy level of detail

Zero Harm:
Ensure compliance with applicable H&S Performance Standards, objectives and as well as acts, and regulations and the commitment to achieving Zero Harm.

Change Management: 
Work closely with key stakeholders to drive cultural change—employee attitudes and behaviors—through the implementation of Leading and Managing Change methodologies in order to 1) achieve Zero Harm (sustainable improvements to Dyno Nobel’s TRIFR score) and 2) build DNNA’s competency in change management as a discipline to enable World Class operational capabilities.

Vigorously participate as member of the H&S organization and support specific Implementation Task Forces. Be a model for the mindsets and behaviors necessary to create an environment of trust, participation and accountability. Work with and take the lead from the SVP H&S, H&S Director, and Shared Service Manager Ops Center of Excellence to establish common referents and a cadence for team communications. Foster team cohesion, “team glue”.

Decision Making Authority:
Responsibility for communication content and medium. Make recommendations to key stakeholders on the strategic approach and tactics to achieve optimal outcome/results. Provide feedback/advice on the maintenance of standards/setting of KPIs and where further opportunities for improvement may exist. Accountability for initiative-specific budget and spend. Designs and implements methods for Compliance with H&S Management System. Develops methods for roll out of SHAERS Material 

Major Challenges:

  • Ensure data provided for monthly H&S reports are accurate and meaningful.
  • Manage multiple tasks (with deadlines) simultaneously

Technical Competencies:

Education: Bachelor Degree preferred

3-5 Years’ experience in administration, project coordination and communications or combination of degree and experience


  • A high degree of computer expertise, in particular, the application and use of Microsoft Office suite (advanced skills in Excel & PowerPoint, intermediate skills in Word).
  • Skilled in identification of possible improvement interventions through data analysis
  • Ability to plan, organize and lead large conferences
  • Demonstrated ability to develop communications campaigns that leverage traditional and new media (print, video, web and “social media”, tele/video-conference, mobile apps, etc).
