HSE Area Manager

Position Summary:  The purpose of this position is to implement, execute, and manage Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) programs relative to a large national/international corporate account market area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) regulatory compliance within the account, market area, or assigned area of responsibility. Communicates all findings, concerns, and deficiencies to the responsible functional managers to effect timely and necessary corrections.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategic solutions that will support management's efforts to improve and maintain compliance as required. 
  • Participates in research, development, analysis, maintenance, implementation, execution, and management of all plans, policies, procedures, playbooks, initiatives, information sheets, brochures, checklists, and training related to HSE programs. 
  • Monitors injury, illness, and incident related performance within the account, market area, or other assigned area of responsibility. Monitors performance for trends or other indicators of improving or degrading incident performance and develops and implements strategic solutions that will improve the performance results as required.
  • Executes service tasks related to equipment permits, risk assessments, job hazard analysis, indoor air quality assessments, hearing conservation assessments, management of change evaluations, chemical use/storage reviews, chemical inventories, pre- and post-regulatory inspections, training, standard operating procedure development, and federal/state regulatory research.
  • Develops and implements standardized metrics to measure the effectiveness of HSE programs; including both lagging and leading indicators. Provides recommendations for program refinement to increase enrichment, understanding, and maturity based on a review of standardized metrics. Metrics will be tracked and reported to account employees on a monthly basis.
  • Acts as a resource to team and account employees as an HSE subject matter expert and establishes cross-functional partnerships with account departments and stakeholders to facilitate understanding and maturity of programs.
  • Promotes safety consciousness among team, partners, stakeholders, and account employees by providing accurate and informative data, conducting training, participating in program awareness opportunities, giving timely feedback on program questions, and visibly supporting the overall HSE program(s).
  • Recommends staff recruitment, selection, promotion, advancement, corrective action and termination. Prepares and delivers performance appraisal for staff. Mentors/coaches team members to further develop competencies. Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values

Education and experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) preferably in Safety, EHS, Environmental Sciences, or related
  • Minimum of 5 years of related HSE managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety, and environmental regulations is essential. Direct experience dealing with regulatory agencies and / or compliance officers is preferred.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, construction, and / or facility maintenance and management is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive issues.
