Operations Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist
Under the direction of a multi-site Plant Manager, the Operations Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist reports to the Plant Manager and conducts a variety of environmental and safety activities, reporting, and data analysis/entry functions in support of multi-facility regulatory compliance assignments. Assists in the management of site-specific regulatory permit programs and communicates with regulatory agencies. Helps in managing safety and environmental contractors and consultants and coordinates with the Corporate EHS Department for program management.
Ø Support Plant Management and the company’s EHS Department with all aspects of regulatory compliance and program management
Ø Manage environmental and safety projects with internal staff and external contractors/consultants at individual sites including review and interpretation of compliance data
Ø Manage permit activities associated with but not exclusive to USEPA, OSHA, CalEPA, CalOSHA, Local Air Pollution Control Districts, Regional and State Water Resources Control Boards, County Environmental Health Agencies, FDA
Ø Work directly with plant personnel to manage permits including, but not limited to: Waste Discharge Requirements, Supply Water Permits, Title V and Non-Title V Air Permits, RMP/PSM/CalARP, Hazardous Material and Waste Facility Registrations, Refrigerant Management Program
Ø Ensure timely completion of activities and tasks assigned through the company EHS Management System
Ø Assist in managing and maintaining the current and accurate condition of regulatory documentation
Ø Assist in the preparation and submittal of regulatory reports
Ø Attend and assist sites, as needed and available, with both internal and external EHS audits
Ø Assist site management in the application and management of wastewater land application areas
Ø Work with and direct contracted water system operators to ensure permit compliance is maintained
Ø Work with management teams to identify, develop, and implement continuous improvement projects applicable to both regulatory and operational improvements
Ø Assist in leading internal safety improvement teams and initiatives
Ø Conduct re-occurring internal safety program audits and inspections
Ø Stay current with laws and regulations set forth by State, Local, and Federal Agencies as it relates to Environmental Health and Safety
Ø Analyze, interpret, and understand laws and regulations enacted by State, Local, and Federal Agencies, its impact on company’s operations and provide recommendations to implement lawful and cost-effective compliance
Ø Gather in-field data from multiple facilities and compile into one central location
Ø Attend, participate and represent our company in government or private committees and industry groups in the process of formulating balanced laws and regulations affecting environmental matters

Ø Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences/management and health and safety or related field (engineering, public health)
Ø Must be 18 or older at the time of hire
Ø 1-3 years’ experience in the EHS field
Ø Must have a strong commitment to workplace safety programs and policies
Ø Must be able to read, fully comprehend, and implement requirements of laws, regulations, and technical documents
Ø Skilled in effectively communicating in oral and written form with all internal and external individuals
Ø Skilled in technical data analysis and report writing
Ø Skilled in the use of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint at an intermediate level.
Ø Must be willing to continue to upgrade professional competence by attending appropriate seminars, meetings, and trainings
Ø Support and model all company procedures and policies
Ø Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with attention to detail
Ø Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, work effectively in team/crew environment, adherence to all safety regulations and operating procedures
Ø Must have interpersonal skills to deal with Plant Workers, Plant Management, Company Management, and Regulators
Ø Ability to travel frequently between facilities, industry meeting, and events
Ø Prioritize while able to adapt to changing priorities
Ø Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Ø Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Ø Working environment has exposure to both indoors and outdoors and related warehouse/production equipment and associated noise levels
Ø Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, and in a warehouse/production environment
