Project Safety Manager

General Description: 
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing and managing the project accident prevention program and successful completion of all safety requirements. Shall assume a leadership role for all staff members on site as well as subcontractor partners in leading these teams to safely construct their project. Work closely with the project US Army Corps of Engineers site safety professionals.

Develop and conduct site specific orientation and compliance training for all onsite staff and subcontractors. Ensure construction activities are preplanned for safety through scope review, preconstruction meetings, AHA/JSA review, etc. They are responsible for conducting and documenting weekly safety inspections on the project site(s).

Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

  • At least 7 years demonstrated track record of managing the safety efforts on a large construction projects
  • Current OSHA 500 and OSHA 510 certification
  • Knowledge of USACOE Safety & Health Requirements EM 385-1-1
  • Strong planning and organizing skills including the ability to manage several work streams simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills with a capacity to present, discuss, and explain issues coherently and logically both in writing and verbally
  • Clear decision-making ability with the facility to judge complex situations and assess when to escalate issues
  • Proven injury management experience
  • Ability to balance conflicting and changing demands through prioritization and a pragmatic
  • Highly computer literate in Microsoft office suite, including MS Project and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • CPR/AED/FA certifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Enforce the Bauer Foundation safety culture initiatives
  • Monitor project activities with the review of the project team including programs and policies
  • Implement safety measurements/metrics for tracking and reporting safety performance of the subcontractors
  • Engage in site safety inspections, coordinating corrections with all contractors and US Army Corps of Engineers
  • Implement Contractor Orientation procedures for a multi-lingual work site
  • Provide general safety oversight and performance of both administrative and field safety management responsibilities
  • Conduct/coordinate Project Safety "Tool Box" Meetings with all project employees on a weekly basis
  • Assists, plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including OSHA and US Army Corps of Engineers
  • Advises Corporate Safety Officer on safety compliance concerns and preventive actions
  • Plans and implements compliance safety training for employees in work site safety practices
  • Conduct 'new hire' safety orientations onsite
  • Conducts post-accident investigations and identifies root cause (analysis)
