Safety and Health Specialist

Reports To: Plant Manager

Salary Range: $70k to $85k DOE

Bonus: 10%

Relocation: Yes

Job Responsibilities: The Safety & Health Specialist is responsible for the day to day implementation and continuous improvement of Health & Safety programs. Will provide technical and professional support services to operations.

  • Partner with Plant Manager in the execution of Safety strategies to meet business goals.
  • Actively coach all site employees in leadership behaviors to improve communication, safety behaviors and activities on the shop floor to improve and attain a goal of zero incidents.
  • Anticipates, identifies and evaluates hazardous conditions and practices. Implements, administers and advises others on hazard control programs.
  • Applies and uses hierarchy of controls to eliminate hazards and reduce risks in the facility or site. Plant lead for the application of internal and external standards in support of hazard reduction and compliance.
  • Facility SME for Process Safety Management and will support the development and updates as needed JHA’s; SOP’s.
  • Performs safety evaluations, site level self-audits, oversee site safety committee and ergonomics programs.
  • Performs Instructor led training for EHS courses. Maintains facility training calendar and ensures training records are maintained per regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain working relationships with Regulatory Agencies including participation in industry specified organizations.
  • Provides hands-on guidance to facility managers & supervisors regarding incident reporting/investigation program to ensure company standards and process are met.
  • Review incidents, ensures Root Cause Analysis is completed to prevent reoccurrence and drive corrective actions through health checks.
  • Administer the local hearing conservation program per regulatory requirements.
  • Works directly with plant leadership to ensure facility monthly safety inspections are being completed. Makes recommendations to remedy noted deficiencies.
  • Provides internal support for workers’ compensation cases. Acts as facility safety contact for work comp claims questions, interfaces with insurance adjusters, medical professionals and injured workers.
  • Manage the Safety & Health budget.
  • Facilitate new hire safety on-boarding for new employees.
  • Maintain metrics in accordance with company requirements.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering or other closely related degree required.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a Safety role in a manufacturing setting.
  • CSP or ASP certifications a major plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations required.
  • Detailed understanding of general industry standards and knowledge of basic health and safety concepts such as hazard & risk assessment, behavior-based safety, machine / equipment safety etc.
  • Process Safety Management experience highly preferred.
  • The ability to develop and lead Safety committees.
  • Well versed in developing Safety training programs.
  • Passion for results, strong work ethic and acts with a sense of urgency and purpose balanced with strategic and day-to-day operational intent
  • Superior analytical skills with the ability to identify problems, resolve issues, mitigate risks, and initiate continuous improvements initiatives
  • Possess the ability to handle multiple priorities and a wide variety of tasks to meet deadlines, all with a sense of urgency.
