Safety Coordinator

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Safety Supervisor

Position Summary:
Under general supervision: Promotes and enhances the maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions, recommending measures to reduce or eliminate industrial accidents and health hazards in compliance with, and to exceed, the applicable Occupational Safety (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and other applicable safety and health standards.

Coordinates safety activities of operational regions to ensure implementation of safety activities throughout the organization. Compiles, analyzes, and interprets statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational injuries, illness and incidents and prepares reports for information of personnel concerned. Evaluates technical and scientific publications concerned with safety management and participates in activities of related professional organizations to update knowledge of safety program developments.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to work hazards.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure compliance.
  • Investigate work related incidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.
  • Report or review findings from incident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing.
  • Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents.
  • Maintain & apply knowledge of current safety policies, regulations, and operational processes.
  • Conduct or facilitate supervisory and shop floor level training of personnel.
  • Ensure training policy compliance.
  • Conduct safety training and education programs, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
  • Conducts meetings with supervisors and employees to discuss such points as the standards, citable violations, lessons learned, and potential hazards and to resolve disputes regarding occupational safety issues.
  • Provide new-employee health and safety orientations, and develop materials for these presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Safety Supervisor and/or EHS Director

Requirements:

  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage others
  • 1-4 years’ experience within manufacturing operations and industrial EHS roles is required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (including but not limited to: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to work an off shift as required (Flexible schedule)

Physical Demands

  • Lifting up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to operate standard office machines
  • Operate a computer keyboard
  • Must be able to hear voice communication and telephone

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in EHS, IH, Physical Science/Engineering or a related technical field
  • Current certifications or in pursuit of any of the following certifications are preferred: OHST, GSP, ASP, CSP

Work Environment: Duties are performed indoors in an office setting, the manufacturing plant, and performed outside exposed to all weather conditions.
