Safety Director

DEPARTMENT: Safety

POSITION:  Safety Director

REPORTS TO:  Executive Vice President

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Site Safety Managers in addition to temporary project specific Safety Coordinators

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provide leadership, innovation, and implementation of the company’s safety program in compliance with all applicable federal, state, local laws, customer requirements and the company’s vision, mission, and values for a safe work place.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Compliance

  • Thorough knowledge and implementation of all Federal, State, and Local laws, customer requirements, and corporate culture regarding workplace safety, including record keeping

 

Safety Administration

  • Lead an Executive review of the overall company safety performance
  • Conducts all incident investigations and root-cause analysis, track and report trends and lessons learned, recommend and implement any corrective actions and improvements
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, review and support of on-site Safety Coordinators
    • Collaborate with Risk Manager in Claims Management
    • Maintain data in various Pre-Qualification web sites per Customer Demands

 

Site Management

  • Conduct project and crew Safety Audits; track trends and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure Pre-Task Planning Execution, Track and Audit crew execution, implement corrective actions, and revise program as necessary
  • Meet with and gain knowledge of all customer requirements related to safety reporting and performance;  create, review and implement site specific programs with the Project Management team

 

Training & Program Development

  • Review and update corporate safety strategy and policies to reduce exposure and incidents with our employees
  • Review and Update Corporate Safety Program annually and as required
  • Understand trends, innovations, and changes in the industry and prepare the company in advance for timely implementation.
  • Develop and implement training and certifications as required for employees
  • Provide technical assistance to office and field operations to understand and comply with our policies, regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Implement, review, revise and coordination of Employee Safety Orientation program
  • Coordinate Training Programs by outside vendors
  • Publish and coordinate Weekly Tool Box Talks and Safety Stand Downs 

 

Other duties as required to mitigate workplace injuries and accidents as required by customers and/or management

 POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 7+ years of applicable experience
  • Experience working with a union workforce
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communications skills
  • Proven ability to work independently with a high degree of organization
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Strong working knowledge of the Electrical Construction industry, relevant work experience required
  • OSHA 500 (502) and 501 (503) Certifications
  • Willingness to travel in support of the site specific needs and staffing.
  • Working knowledge of Workers Compensation
  • Ability to Develop and Implement procedures in concert with NFPA 70E
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Products including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Understanding of One Call Laws and Practices in Sachs Electric Operating Areas
