Safety & Environmental (EHS) Manager

We have an opportunity for a Safety and Environmental Manager who at our WestRock facility in Clinton, IA. The responsibilities and requirements are as follows.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead Safety Pillar Steering Teams and provide leadership and support to all Safety Sub Pillar Teams.
  • Maintain our Safety & Environmental Management Systems.
  • Ensure Compliance with all applicable OSHA & EPA reporting and regulations.
  • Ensure all required OSHA, EPA & Company safety & environmental training is completed.
  • Ensure safety & environmental rule compliance within all departments and shifts.
  • Ensure completion of Investigation and Corrective Actions for all incidents / near misses.
  • Maintain and facilitate our safety information systems for data integrity.
  • Facilitate plant safety meetings.
  • Assist in establishing and sustaining a clean and well organized facility.
  • Assist in achieving housekeeping goals/objectives for all departments.
  • Lead with a relentless pursuit of continuous improvement – Safety, Quality and Productivity.
  • Assist teams in achieving quality goals.
  • Assist in ensuring that all plant functions follow established Quality and Food Packaging Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Strive to meet or exceed customer expectations in product quality and service.
  • Assist crews in achieving production goals while following our Operating Priorities (Safety, Quality & Productivity).
  • Assist in ensuring that all employees utilize the JDE Work order system.
  • Communicate frequently with all employees to ensure each employee is confident and competent in his/her activities and has the opportunity to express concerns, ideas, and/or to provide feedback on current or projected process activities.
  • Communicate with the Steering Team and management on unresolved safety problems.
  • Work with suppliers and vendors for technical support and solutions to safety issues.
  • The Safety Manager may serve as back up to Quality Manager, Department Managers, Group Supervisors and Plant Manager.

Participates on process improvement teams as needed.

What You Need to Succeed:
Candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Communication, leadership, strategic and tactical planning, problem solving, mentoring.
  • Politeness, confidence, tact, patience, and diplomacy while dealing with complex problems.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and listening skills in order to effectively interact across all levels within the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook).
  • Data analysis, statistical methods.
  • Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles and tools.
  • Innovation; change management.
