Senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Professional

Position Purpose & Summary
Coordination and execution of EHS tasks at multiple Cargill Industrial Specialties (CIS) facilities as well as the integration of new manufacturing facilities into Cargill.  These EHS tasks include training, incident investigations, and reports, operating plans, audits/inspections, facility projects, BU initiatives, agency communications and Corporate EHS reporting.  Responsibilities include compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and Corporate EHS policies. Hands-on work with facility operating personnel to promote, and improve EHS awareness, compliance and performance.  Provide leadership to drive towards and sustain an injury free culture.   This job requires the ability to travel to other Cargill locations, partners, potential M&A targets up to 25% of the time.
 
Principal Accountabilities     
40% Implement EHS Strategy

  • Provide EHS support at multiple CIS facilities to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal EHS regulations, as well as all applicable Cargill EHS requirements
  • Leads or assists in the development of programs and processes involving interpretation and variation to execute EHS strategy in a manner appropriate to the technology, scope and maturity of the team/area.
  • Frequently, benchmarks internally and externally to identify best practices of others, consistent with and in support of the EHS strategy, that can be applied effectively.

25% Develop EHS Strategy

  • Develop and maintain CIS EHS programs and share best practices across multiple facilities. This role will be supporting efforts to ensure deep understanding and achieve support of the approved EHS strategy, or relevant parts of the approved EHS strategy, from internal and external partners and stakeholders.
     
20% Continuously Improve EHS Results

  • Facilitate execution of CIS business plan EHS initiatives to improve CIS EHS culture and performance
  • Using full knowledge of EHS practices and standards, reviews and analyzes audit results requiring some interpretation, to confirm that the corporate, business and government EHS standards are met.
  • Through existing systems, enters complex and varied measures and data according to corporate and BU EHS standards
  • Builds effective working relationships with senior-level employees in order to obtain/sustain a strong Environment, Health and Safety culture.
     
10% Shape Internal EHS Culture

  • Conduct training to implement / support EHS programs and initiatives across multiple facilities
  • Designs and delivers moderately complex training solutions related to Environment, Health and Safety issues, practices and risks. Requires full knowledge of EHS practices and standards.
  • Supports leaders to promote proactive workplace Environment, Health and Safety practices. Using full knowledge of EHS practices and standards, provides technical, regulatory and behavioral consultation and support required to build a strong EHS culture.
     
5% Perform any other duties as assigned
 
Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering, EHS or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience managing EHS responsibilities for multiple manufacturing facilities or 10+ years of experience managing EHS responsibilities in a single manufacturing facility
  • Experience managing Process Safety Management regulated processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Federal, State and Local EHS regulations
  • Position requires US travel and global travel 25%
  • Good communications Skills
     
Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Engineering, EHS or related field
  • Experience managing the EHS integration of newly acquired facilities
  • Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office suite
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and ensure that EHS plans, guidance and advise is accurate, timely and effective Effective at interacting w/ CIS operations personnel (high contact), EHS consultants (moderate contact), government regulators (low contact) and EHS attorneys (low contact)
  • Demonstrated teamwork and the ability to effectively collaborate with and lead others
