Site Safety Representative

BrandSafway is looking for a Site Safety Representative in the Toledo, OH area. 

JOB PURPOSE:
This is a 14 to 20-month project for one of Safway’s client sites
. Individuals who apply for this position should expect to work 5 days per week, and 10 hours per day. This position works in the safety, health, and environmental areas in an effort to prevent and mitigate employee injuries and illnesses

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  • Hazard Recognition:  Perform jobsite safety analysis to identify workplace and employee hazards. Determine the appropriate control measure(s) to eliminate or reduce workplace hazards and/or protect employees.
  • Employee Observations:  Observe employees during work activities and provide feedback and/or retraining as needed regarding basic safety expectations for workers and/or supervisors.  Observe employees to help ensure compliance standards are maintained with respect to customer, jobsite, and/or company safety and health rules, policies and procedures.
  • Customer Interaction:  Participate in customer and/or jobsite safety initiatives, meetings, inspections, and worker recognition programs.  Assist jobsite personnel with identifying and resolving customer and/or jobsite safety issues.  Adhere to site specific safety requirements as required by the customer and/or jobsite. Implement on an as needed basis, customer and/or jobsite specific hazard control measures.
  • Safety Training and Meetings: Facilitate, document, and track employee training on assigned jobsite(s). Train and/or coordinate customer specific safety training programs.  Assist with additional and/or company safety training programs for employees with the Corporate Safety and Training Departments.  Prepare and facilitate regular safety meetings for employees on the assigned jobsite(s).   
  • Medical Interface: Respond to and may assist with the evaluation of employee injury/illness on the assigned jobsite(s).  Coordinate the transportation of injured or ill employees to medical facilities. May assist in the administration of the company’s modified duty / return to work program on an as needed basis.
  • Incident / Accident Reporting & Investigation: Report incidents, accidents and near misses to the Corporate Branch / Multi-Branch or Regional Safety Manager.  May assist with the investigation of incidents involving company property, employees, or temporary workers in coordination Corporate Safety and/or Legal Departments. 
  • Administrative: Assist with the documentation of jobsite safety meetings, training records, and near miss reports as applicable.  Review job hazard analysis forms as they are completed by work crews.  If applicable, review and file forklift inspection and maintenance records.  Administer the emergency response procedures for the jobsite.  If applicable, assist with jobsite safety recognition program and managing the personal protective equipment inventory.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.) 

  • OSHA 30-hour Certificate for Construction.
  • Understanding and/or training in the OSHA 29 CFR-1926 for Construction Industry and OSHA 29 CFR-1910 General Industry safety standards.
  • Basic First Aid Certification preferred.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to set priorities for work/task assignments.
  • Experience in the construction and industrial industries with an emphasis on the scaffold segment preferred.
  • Experience and/or training in hazard recognition and control preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and written with company employees and customers. 
  • Good presentation skills to effectively train and motivate employees. 
  • Ability to use a computer and the Microsoft Office software programs.
  • Satisfactory background check, if required by the customer and/or jobsite.

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING REQUIRED: 

  • Wear hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and hearing protection, as needed, while on the jobsite.  Industrial sites may require the wearing of Nomex, Flame Resistant Clothing or equivalent clothing.  In the event of a job requirement where a respirator must be worn, a medical evaluation and a respiratory fit test will be conducted per OSHA regulations.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be medically evaluated and cleared to wear the appropriate respiratory equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.  The employee frequently works in high, precarious places, up to and over 100 feet; may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals in hazardous waste facilities.
  • Requires ability to climb scaffold and enter confined spaces on jobsites as necessary.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and is occasionally loud while working on construction job sites.
