Sr. Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Work with the leader in the power industry! Our Berlin, WI location is seeking a Sr. Environmental Health and Safety Specialist.

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day environmental, health and safety functions at an assigned location. This includes, but is not limited to, implementing the organization’s safety program, working with personnel to maintain a safe and healthy work environment, monitoring the facility and processes for adherence to OSHA, EPA, Wisconsin DNR, DOT, and other local regulations and guidelines.  This position works closely with cross-functional teams throughout the facility and leads the pursuit of zero incidents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide environmental, health, and safety leadership to the facility and engages employees throughout the facility.
  • Direct development, maintenance, and goal achievement in support of corporate, strategic initiatives designed to produce measured world-class performance. 
  • Manage and perform the planning, training, inspection, reporting and recordkeeping requirements for all environmental and safety compliance programs.
  • Perform ergonomic and safety risk assessments virtually or hands-on for product and process capability.
  • Lead the identification, assessment and resolution of ergonomic issues including physical part validation of acceptability to ergonomic standards.
  • Conduct audits to be used to ensure that consistent, best-in-class results and compliance are followed to enable operational excellence. Prepare reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
  • Observe workers to determine proper use of prescribed safety equipment and procedures.  Train and demonstrate proper use of safety equipment.
  • Ensure that local, state and federal environmental and safety regulations, codes and rules are followed.
  • Manage the facility SDS/Hazard Communication program.
  • Investigate incidents (including injuries, property damage, near misses, releases, and losses) to determine root causes and prepares/directs corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Conduct and document monthly inspections of hazardous waste accumulation/chemical storage areas.
  • Lead Executive and Employee Safety Committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, or related field OR 8 years of related experience in the Operations function within a similar working environment.
    • Demonstrated understanding of OSHA, EPA, WDNR, DOT and local regulations.
    • Excellent working knowledge of ergonomic analysis tools.
    • Proven track record of successfully managing shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast paced environment;
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to travel within Wisconsin up to 10% of the time to develop an understanding of the wider organizational challenges and perform internal EHS audits.
    • CHMM, CSP, CIH, or PE Certification preferred not required
    • Implementation experience with safety related programs (ISO, VPP, etc.) preferred not required.
    • Previous experience using SAP or equivalent ERP preferred not required.
