Georgia-Pacific has an immediate opening for a Sr. Health & Safety Leader at our Brunswick, GA facility. Brunswick Cellulose LLC is a world-class manufacturing facility where team members use innovative technologies to produce specialty and market fluff pulp for a variety of high-end uses across the globe. Reporting to the Vice President, General Manager of the mill, the Sr. Safety & Health Leader will provide both occupational and process safety leadership as well as strategic direction to the Brunswick leadership team and facility, through the application of Georgia-Pacific’s Market Based Management (MBM®) Framework and Guiding Principles. This position will influence and lead a Health & Safety capability group including Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Medical Management, Emergency Team, and Process Safety. This strategic leadership role creates long term value by ensuring Health & Safety excellence and performance improvement is driven through culture change;
Health & Safety strategies effectively address the facility’s risk profile; Georgia-Pacific’s 7-element Risk Management System (RMS) is effectively implemented, and appropriate leading and trailing metrics are well defined and effectively measured.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

Leadership & Talent Management

* Providing leadership, influence and strategic direction to direct reports and leadership team to achieve the safety & health and process safety visions through management commitment and employee ownership
* Leading, coaching, and developing direct reports utilizing the MBM® Guiding Principles and Operations Excellence tools to improve their capability and performance
* Utilizing development plans to grow safety/health and process safety skills and knowledge though innovation in training and development programs
* Developing strategies for emerging facility and corporate needs and initiatives
* Allocating resources to effectively execute strategies
* Serving as a coach, mentor and councilor to mill VP, S&H capabilities and facility leadership to develop and execute short and long-term safety & health objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that prioritize and mitigate risks

Knowledge & Tactical Responsibilities 
 
* Developing and maintaining the site’s Emergency Action Plan, including any coordination with local emergency response teams
* Leading the development of risk assessment methods/systems for anticipating, identifying, and evaluating hazards, overseeing evaluation, interpretation, and compliance with state and federal regulations and permits
* Leading and/or facilitating the leadership of Incident Investigations, along with oversight to assure recommendations are effective and completed to prevent recurrence
* Ensuring compliance with OSHA PSM and EPA RMP requirements for the covered process, as well as promote the use of process safety principles throughout the mill to reduce risk to our employees, our environment, and our community
* Leading and/or facilitating the leadership of Process Hazards Analyses (PHA) for processes involving highly hazardous chemicals
* Working closely with facility maintenance to assure mechanical integrity is managed in keeping with risk-based process safety objectives as well as compliance-based requirements
* Ensuring the development, improvement, and implementation of safety training systems
* Ensuring the Risk Management System is utilized to sustain and improve performance
* Facilitating and represent the facility during agency inspections
* Managing the Worker’s Compensation insurance policy and program
Communicating with business unit safety and health and other personnel to assure alignment with business vision, strategy, and programs

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or related field
* Eight (8) or more years of supervisory experience in a Health & Safety leadership role
* Eight (8) or more years of occupational and process safety experience in an industrial, chemical process or manufacturing environment
* Experience and working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910, and 1926

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:
* Fifteen (15) or more years of occupational and process safety experience in an industrial, chemical process or manufacturing environment (i.e. pulp and paper manufacturing)
* Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification
* Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering with process engineering experience
* Demonstrated ability to establish sustainable systems for compliance and continuous improvement
* Working knowledge of Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) concepts and methods
